East Side Hotel

As the page prints it

The 2016 copyright and the language switch

The footer of the English page ends in a copyright line and a language switch sits in the header. An older file in the same archive is a language chooser with a different title. The year 2016 is also the year hidden in the booking form's default dates.

The copyright line

The line reads © East Side Hotel 2016, then a vertical bar, then Designed by, and then nothing. The designer name is not in the element. A note that supplied an agency would fill a blank the page left open. The year is 2016. The page does not say the house was built in 2016, opened in 2016, or last edited in 2016. It says the copyright is 2016.

East Side Hotel in that line matches the welcome heading and the map marker. It does not match the older chooser's title, East Side City Hotel Berlin. Two titles, two files. The English page is the 2016 copyright. The older chooser is the City Hotel title, with no 2016 line in the file that was read.

Privacy Policy sits in the same bar and points at privacy-policy.html, which is not in the archive. The menu note lists that gap with the others. The copyright sentence itself does not state a privacy rule. It states a year and an empty credit.

A vertical bar separates the year from Designed by. The credit after that bar is empty.

English selected, Deutsch linked

The language control marks en as selected and offers de with the title Deutsch. The de link points at /de. That path is not in the archive's URL list. There is no German hotel page to quote. The German words that do exist on the English page are the four offer titles, the street abbreviation, and place names such as Ostbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke. They are not a translation of the welcome.

A German travel guide had replaced the root and three other addresses. Those guides are not the hotel's German version. They are gone from those addresses, replaced by short notes that point back at the English page. The root note is one of them. This note does not treat those guides as the missing /de page. They were a different text, and they are not restored as hotel copy.

The switcher does not list French or any third language. The older chooser, below, has rectangles aimed at an English file and a German file. That is a different switch, on a different page.

The switcher offers two labels. Only the English page is in the archive as hotel text.

The older chooser

select-oF.htm is titled East Side City Hotel Berlin. It is a FrontPage page with a black background and an image map. One rectangle points at english/e-neu-oF.htm. Another points at deutsch/neu-oF.htm. Neither of those two paths is in the URL list. The image the map uses, animation/select1ani.gif, is in the archive. The pages the rectangles name are not.

The file also references animation/thec1ani.gif. It does not contain the welcome paragraph, the address, or the four offer titles. Calling it the German site would overstate a chooser whose German target is missing. It is the older title and the older switch. The English page is the text.

select.htm, english/neu.htm, and deutsch/neu.htm are among the addresses that no longer hold hotel text. Their notes say the original text of those addresses is not in the archive. They are not the FrontPage chooser. The chooser is the -oF file. The similar names are a reason to keep the paths distinct, not a reason to merge them.

2016 inside the booking form

The booking form's hidden dateIn is 03/19/2016 and dateOut is 03/20/2016. The copyright is the same year. The page never says the hidden dates and the copyright are one fact. They share a year in the file. The form note explains the dates as defaults in the markup, not as a stay that is on sale. This section only records the shared year so the footer and the form are not given two different calendars by accident.

March 19 and March 20 are not in the offer titles. The offer titles use weekdays and a seven-day length. A copyright year is not a weekday. Keeping the three 2016 appearances in view, without turning them into an opening day, is as far as the file goes.

The weather widget prints Berlin as a city heading and an empty heading under it. No temperature and no date sit in that empty heading. Berlin in the widget is not a second copyright. It is a label over a blank.

Sharing a year is not the same as sharing a sentence. The footer and the hidden fields never refer to each other.

What the year is not asked to prove

The year is not asked to prove that the two guest lines were written in 2016. The lines have no dates. It is not asked to prove that the gallery blurb's artist count was current in 2016. The blurb has no date of its own. It is not asked to prove a price, because no price is printed.

Designed by remains blank next to the year. The scripts name libraries in their source, and those names are not written into the Designed by slot. Moving a script comment into the credit line would edit the footer. The footer credit is empty.

The address beside the copyright is still Mühlenstr. 6, 10243 Berlin, with T and F empty. The year does not fill the phone line. The address note keeps that emptiness. The copyright note keeps the year and the language switch, and the fact that the German hotel page the switch names is not in the archive.

The guest lines have no dates, so 2016 is not their timestamp. The gallery blurb has no date either.

Questions

What year does the footer print?

2016, in the line © East Side Hotel 2016. Designed by has no name after it.

Is there a German hotel page in the archive?

No. The switch links to /de, and that path is not in the URL list. The English page is the hotel text that remains.

What is the older chooser called?

Its title is East Side City Hotel Berlin. It points at two language files that are not in the archive. The chooser image itself is.
